To fight on behalf of workers' rights, Democrats Rep. Bobby Scott and Senator Patty Murray introduced the Protecting the Right to Organize Act in Congress. If passed, the PRO Act would provide millions of workers across the country with additional protections to organize and collectively bargain.
More specifically, the legislation will:
- Penalize employers that interfere with their employees' organizing efforts,
- Make explicitly clear that employers cannot interfere with employee unionization voting procedures,
- Enhance support for worker strikes and boycotts, and
- Close loopholes in federal employment and labor laws.
This legislation is an important step towards closing the gap between current unionization rates and the percentage of workers who wish to be in a union.
It's time for our lawmakers to show their support for working people and families across the country.
