New research from the Campaign for Healthier Solutions (CHS) in partnership with NRDC found that some children’s products sold at stores like Dollar General and Dollar Tree contain dangerous chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and learning disabilities.
The report, titled "Product Testing for the People" and fittingly published the week of Mother's Day, emphasized that children and pregnant people are at particularly high risk from these everyday products: researchers found baby lotion containing a formaldehyde-releasing chemical, toys with PVC, and candy pails with lead.
In general, dollar stores predominantly serve communities of color and low-income communities that are already disproportionately exposed to chemical hazards and health effects linked to chemical exposures.
NRDC is partnering with CHS to get toxic products off dollar store shelves — and you can help. Tell dollar store executives: stop selling toxic products and protect children from harm.
