With the Trump administration sowing chaos hourly, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that there's enormous strength in a civil society—in grassroots Democrats, and in our democracy—that is fighting back.
For one, there have been more protests in 2025 than there were in 2017. Sure, when Trump was first sworn in, we didn't have the same immediate explosion of protest activity, like the National Women’s March. But the number of people who have marched in protest of this administration has likely eclipsed 2017 numbers. And remember, we won the House and swept every statewide race in 2018. The opposition to this administration is more intense this time.
There are huge headlines every time Trump tries to do something really terrible. But over and over, when he tries to do terrible things, he loses in court. He’s now lost over 131 times in court. To some extent, Trump’s terrible things are being held in check.

So many people are fighting back—law firms, universities, NGOs, and grassroots groups all over the country are resisting Trump's attacks. Trump is doing a lot of terrible damage, and we know he’s not done yet. But it’s through solidarity we're able to limit the destruction.
At the same time, we’re building a blue wave that’s able to swing back to win elections—to win a trifecta in Wisconsin, a majority in the U.S. House, and then win nationwide in 2028.
Even in this moment of frightening darkness, there's tremendous light coming from the millions of people who will not roll over in the face of Trump’s attacks. The sun is now shining. Spring is here in Wisconsin, and there is so much hope for the future, even as we go through these times of trial and challenge.
