Hey John,
You might not expect our movement to quote Star Wars — but honestly, we can’t stop thinking about this monologue from Andor, by Karis Nemik. It starts:
You know that feeling. We know that feeling. We’ve all had moments lately where we felt hopeless about the state of the world. It's why we built this movement - to take back our society and our government from the fossil fuel billionaires who are burning our futures for profit.
Because that feeling of hopelessness is no accident. There are people in power right now who want you to believe that change is impossible. That billionaires will always run the show. That fascists can’t be beaten. That resistance is pointless.
They want us to believe that they can’t be beaten, because they know that they can.
They aren’t projecting strength, but fear. They're afraid of you.
They lash out at every community that might stand up to them because they know that their grip on power is always slipping.
As our name was meant to remind us: even in the darkest of moments, we know that the sunrise is coming.
The desire to fight for something better lives within you. It always has. You don’t have to be trained as a Jedi, chosen by the force, or perfect in any way. You just have to try.
Here’s the thing about Karis Nemik. He’s not a Jedi or a smuggler or a senator. He’s just a young adult who believes in a better world.
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment — the headline that changes everything — you’ll be waiting forever. The perfect moment is always now. The perfect reason is simply because you are here. You are part of something bigger than one action.
Try.
Try - because you are not alone.
Try - because they hope you won’t.
Try - because the Force to change the world lives within us all.
In Solidarity,
Team Sunrise
