Strengthening Our Agriculture Workforce

Image

This week, I reintroduced the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act to reform the H-2A visa program and establish a strong, legal immigration workforce for agricultural producers.

The workforce crisis has come to a boiling point for farmers across the country. Reintroducing the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, sends a clear message to farmers that we are working hard to find solutions that ease the burdens brought on by the current state of the H-2A program.

This legislation is necessary to lay the groundwork for continued negotiations, and I am committed to working closely with my colleagues to enact long-term, durable reforms to our agriculture guest worker programs.

This issue has been, and remains, my top priority and unified Republican government is an opportunity to deliver for our farmers and ranchers.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

Image
On Monday, I introduced a bipartisan resolution, alongside Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM), in the House of Representatives to designate May 5, 2025, as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

The rate of missing and murdered indigenous women cases increase every year, and impacted communities continue to suffer.

Designating May 5 as National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls sheds light on this crisis and serves as a reminder that we must better equip our native communities to solve these devastating cases.

Putting American Farmers First

Image

This week, my colleagues on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture held our budget hearing with United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

I raised concerns regarding the growing issue of foreign purchases of U.S. farmland, particularly by the Chinese Communist Party. We spoke about the importance of agricultural research throughout facilities across Washington, including those at Washington State University, and Pacific Northwest Laboratories.

I look forward to working with her to protect American farmland, support research and innovation in the agriculture industry, and ensuring our farmers have the tools they need to thrive.

Strengthening American Energy

On the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water, we held our budget hearing with Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

I emphasized the importance of the Lower Snake River Dams, supporting nuclear energy development, and the importance of the work being done at Hanford.

Secretary Wright understands the need for an all-of-the-above approach to domestic energy production, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.

Pacific Northwest Chamber Meetings

Image

This week, I had the pleasure of meeting with leaders from the Seattle, Tacoma, Portland and Spokane Chambers.

We had productive conversations about strengthening local economies in the Pacific Northwest, expanding trade opportunities, and Congress’ work to rein in federal spending. Additionally, we explored ways to enhance the competitiveness of our industries, particularly in agriculture, technology, and manufacturing.

I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from business leaders about the challenges they face and their ideas for fostering long-term economic growth. I look forward to our continued collaboration to support our region’s prosperity and competitiveness.

I’m pleased to extend my congratulations to Jackeline Arellano of A.C. Davis High School on her winning entry, “Dew Drops of Life" for the Congressional Art Competition. Jackeline's artwork will be hung in the U.S. Capitol alongside winning entries from congressional districts across the country for one year.

Protecting America’s Public Lands

Image

This week I joined Representatives Ryan Zinke (R-MT) and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M) to launch the bipartisan Public Lands Caucus. This congressional coalition will focus on conserving America’s public lands and expanding access for all Americans.

Having served as Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus for four years, I understand firsthand the importance of common-sense conservation policies that protect our precious lands while guaranteeing public access.

The bipartisan Public Lands Caucus will elevate practical land management policies that support our shared commitment to unlocking our natural resources, boosting surrounding local economies, and supporting safe recreation for all to enjoy.

Addressing Central Washington's Health Workforce

Image

On Tuesday, I met with healthcare leaders from the Washinton State Hospital Association to discuss the importance of retaining and expanding the healthcare workforce in our district.
Our region relies on small, practical healthcare facilities to meet the needs of our rural communities. In places like Central Washington, limited access to care remains a serious challenge. That’s why one of my top priorities is expanding local healthcare options—so residents aren’t forced to travel long distances to get the quality care they deserve. I will continue working closely with them to ensure their facilities have the resources and support they need to serve our communities effectively.
Moo-ving Towards a Strong Beef Industry

Image

On Wednesday, I met with members of the Beef Alliance and discussed their key priorities of 2025, including agriculture-related tax provisions and trade issues.

It is vital we continue to pursue policies that support ranchers, promote sustainable practices, and strengthen the market for the long-term viability of the beef industry. I am looking forward to working with them to strengthen our farm country!
