Legislative Update
Dear Neighbors,
It has been a very busy couple of week as we are two weeks away from session ending.
Last week we passed multiple omnibus bills off the house floor including the State Government budget and policy omnibus bill. I am excited to share that we secured a lot of measures to rein in government spending and stop the waste, fraud, and abuse in the state. Including the implementation of House File 3 which passed off the floor with strong bipartisan support, and will add greater oversight into the state government through the office of the Legislative Auditor.

Last week we also passed Elections, Transportation, Veterans, Commerce, and Higher Education omnibus bills off the house floor.
However, we have run into problems when it comes to other committees. The House Democrats have gone back on their agreement when it comes to K12 education. The agreement would’ve had a sunset on unemployment insurance for hourly workers in our schools, relieving another costly mandate on our schools and communities. After having a written agreement, Democrats have decided to back out.
The Health Committee is also at a standstill as House Democrats want to prioritize illegal immigrants over hardworking citizens.

This week we passed the Environment, Human Services, and Energy omnibus bills off the House floor.
We also held a press conference on fraud and the measures we have taken this session to stop the fraud. Combating waste, fraud, and abuse has been a top priority this session—and we’re delivering. With four new full-time investigators at the Office of the Legislative Auditor and proactive accountability measures, we’re taking fraud seriously. Because at the end of the day: Fraud = Bad. Taxpayer dollars should serve the people and not be wasted.

Since late last week, I’ve received hundreds of messages from parents and families concerned about threats to homeschooling and vaccine exemptions. Let me be clear...I hear you, and I have your back. I’m committed to standing up for your parental rights, and our team is already working hard to stop these attacks before they gain any traction. As long as I’m here, your freedoms will be defended.

I will continue to work hard and make sure your voice is heard as we get towards the end of session.
Lastly, happy fishing opener! I hope everyone enjoys getting back out on the water for the season. Best of luck!
