Hi ,

In case you missed it, we co-presented Black Future Newsstand in Los Angeles last week, in partnership with Media2070, Black River Life, USC's Charlotta Bass Journalism and Justice Lab, Borealis Philanthropy’s Racial Equity in Journalism Fund, and more! We were proud to showcase the "Riot to Repair Soundscape Exhibition", a multimedia immersive showcase that provided a lived experience of the power of reparative storytelling.

The exhibition invited organizers, artists, and local community members into a future on the other side of media reparations — an abundant world of journalism that celebrates Black multimedia storytelling, acts as caretakers of community stories and provides a necessary interjection into the barrage of narratives grounded in anti-Blackness, militarization and racial capitalism.

During the exhibition, MediaJustice led a critical conversation about the role of narrative power in the midst of the current Tech Broligarchy, moderated by our Narrative and Communications Director, Eteng Ettah.
Eteng was joined by our Senior Movement Building Director, Myaisha Hayes, in conversation with Dr. Allissa Richardson with USC's Charlotta Bass Journalism and Justice Lab, Aaricka Washington from AfroLA, and Joseph Torres from Media 2070. Together, our panelists discussed the narrative strategies that must emerge to move us toward media reparations and liberation for Black communities.

Myaisha instilled hope toward our audience by shedding light at the opportunity in this moment:
"We should certainly create space for the grief, devastation, and loss we're facing as a movement and in our communities, but this moment also presents a critical opportunity to absorb a lot more people into our movements. Narrative strategists and storytellers play a powerful role in the story that is being written right now."

Installations like Black Future Newsstand dare us to dream of a future where power and ownership of media and technology are more widely controlled and influenced by social movements. We hope you'll join us in this fight and learn more about our new strategy, #ShiftingTerrain, which is continuing to build a people-centered landscape that drives us towards a liberatory future.

In collective solidarity,
