A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

This week, I joined my fellow Democrats in our continued fight against the extreme Republican plans to enact massive cuts that will put the health and wellbeing of working Americans at risk and let children and families go hungry to fund tax giveaways to billionaires and corporations.

Led by Congressman Brendan Boyle, Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget, I joined my colleagues in signing a discharge petition — to force a vote on preventing cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the Republican reconciliation bill. All we need is 5 Republicans to join us in this effort to take cuts to Medicaid and SNAP off the table for good.

ImageCLICK HERE TO VIEW: Congressman Gabe Amo supports discharge petition to force a vote on legislation protecting Medicaid and SNAP.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office confirmed that the Republican plan to slash Medicaid would kick 2.4 million people off their health insurance by 2034. The American people deserve better. These programs are about values. They’re about protecting vulnerable Rhode Islanders, including children, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, and working families already squeezed by rising costs.

I am calling on every Member of Congress to stand up and sign onto Congressman Boyle’s discharge petition to prevent these cuts.

This isn’t just a debate — It’s a fight for the economic livelihood, dignity, health, and well-being of families across Rhode Island and the country. I’m laser focused on fighting against this attack on our values and building a future that prioritizes the needs of working class Rhode Islanders and Americans.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress

This week, I proudly voted in favor of H.R. 530, the ACES Act, a bipartisan bill to help Veterans who served as aircrew get the answers and care they deserve.

The bill would direct the Department of Veterans Affairs to partner with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to study cancer risks linked to military aviation service.

Too many of our service members risk their lives not just in combat, but through long-term exposures we are only beginning to understand. I am committed to fighting for every Veteran to have access to the care and the answers they deserve.

The bill passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support and now heads to the Senate.

In Rhode Island, Easterseals provides essential support to ensure children and young adults with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to thrive.

If conservatives succeed in cutting Medicaid, many people with disabilities would suffer.

I will continue to work with organizations like Easterseals to push back against these cuts.

Image Before coming to Congress, I worked in the White House as a liaison to local officials where I learned firsthand the importance of federal-local partnerships.

That is why I am always excited to see
United States Conference of Mayors when they are in Washington, D.C. I will stand with our nation’s mayors to increase affordable housing, combat the harmful tariffs hurting our small businesses, and promote fair taxes so that middle class families can thrive.

Image Federal employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and other agencies keep Americans safe. They deserve to do their jobs without fear of being attacked by President Donald Trump's, Elon Musk's, and the Department of Government Efficiency's policies.

I was proud to speak with some of them on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to reaffirm my support for their dedicated service.

Image I was proud to join Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and other state and local officials to break ground on the “Missing Move” and Quonset Ramps Construction Project, which will make traveling through I-95 and Route 4 easier for Ocean State residents, businesses, and visitors alike!

When we invest in Rhode Island’s infrastructure, we grow our economy and increase the quality of life for all Rhode Islanders.

Congrats to a great leader, Gary Balletto, for receiving this year’s Community Humanitarian Award.

Image On May 4, 1776, Rhode Island led our budding nation as the first colony to declare independence from England.

From our foundation as a safe haven for religious freedom to the first integrated Military unit to the Gaspee Affair, our state continues to lead the way today with a revolutionary spirit and our motto of hope.

Image At Rhode Island FC’s home opener, I joined many constituents at the new Centreville Bank Stadium.

It was a historic day for Pawtucket and Rhode Island's First Congressional District. I look forward to continuing to work in Congress to help our state's business community expand and thrive.

Looking forward to a great era of Rhode Island soccer!

Image I met with the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes community at their summit, bringing together experts, researchers, and many dealing with the disease.

I will continue to stand up in Congress to push back against Trump’s policies that cut funds to the National Institutes of Health, which would prevent pioneering, life-changing remedies.

One of my priorities in Congress is to ensure that all youth have the opportunity and access to play sports!

To the sluggers on diamonds across Rhode Island's First Congressional District, have fun, be nice, and play ball!

For over 40 years, AIDS Project Rhode Island has led with compassion in its advocacy and activism.

I was proud to join community members at the Run/Walk For Life to talk about my work in Congress and how we need to protect federal funding for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs.

Amo Highlights the Danger of Trump's and Rubio’s Plan to Eliminate State Department Programs
Image
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo criticizes Republican efforts to gut vital State Department programs.
Last week, I called out Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee whose policies are rubber stamping President Trump's and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s half-baked policies.

Their proposal would eliminate the offices working to disrupt human trafficking, prevent terrorism, and support human rights, hurting America’s standing around the world and making us less safe.

I will keep rejecting this conservative retreat from the global challenges we face.

Amo Slams Republican Proposals that would
Tarnish Fiscal State of the Nation
Image
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo exposes hypocrisy of Trump’s budget bill that would explode national debt by $14 trillion.
This week, I spoke out in the House Budget Committee against the reckless Republican budget proposal that would devastate families in Rhode Island and across the country. Their plan would slash $880 billion from Medicaid and $230 billion from SNAP to hand more tax breaks to billionaires.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, House Republicans plan to cut Medicaid would strip health care from millions of children, seniors, people with disabilities, new moms, and working families. On top of that, the Republican plan would add $14 trillion to the national debt. Their policies are hurting our most vulnerable and blowing a giant hole in our nation’s finances just to make the rich even richer.

I will continue to fight tooth and nail to protect Medicaid and SNAP from these cruel cuts and stand up for the health and economic security of hardworking Rhode Islanders.
