Email from Rep. Van Duyne I voted with my House colleagues to protect our universities and taxpayers from Communist China's influence   Washington, DC – This week was National Small Business week! 99% of American businesses are small businesses, making them the backbone of our economy! There’s still time left to shop small this week and support small businesses in our Texas-24 community! It was great to meet with some Texas-24 members of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas. We discussed the importance of extending the 199A small business deduction and making it permanent. Always wonderful to see the incomparable Anne Crews from Mary Kay, Inc. and other members of the Personal Care Products Council! For more than 60 years, Mary Kay has empowered working women to grow a business. I’m grateful for all they do and appreciate the numerous members they have across North Texas and Texas-24. REAL ID went into effect on May 7th. Check to ensure that you have a star on your driver license or ID card. If you need to upgrade your card, visit the Texas Department of Public Safety. Later in the week, I had the opportunity to meet with the Texas Automobile Dealers Association, including Tony Pack, of Sam Pack Auto Group, representing locations across the North Texas area! Thank you to my friends, Rep. Erin Houchin, and Rep. Brandon Gill for joining me on the latest episode of Right to the Point produced by the Republican Study Committee. You can listen here. It was great to see so many representatives of the American Portable Diagnostics Association! We discussed the PURE Act, which is my bipartisan bill to expand access and modernize our healthcare system. I really enjoyed seeing the live demo of a portable ultrasound! This week my colleagues and I passed the ACES Act, which will direct the Secretary of the VA to study cancer incidences and mortality rates among aviators and aircrews who served in the Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. We also passed the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act, which you can read more about in my Work of the Week. Thursday was the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day! Thank you, again, to the Greatest Generation who sacrificed so much to secure freedom, liberty, and end World War II in Europe. Congratulations to Andrew Giuliani on his new role as the Executive Director of the presidential task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup! Dallas is excited to be hosting 9 of the FIFA World Cup matches! My colleagues and I also voted to codify President Trump’s executive order to rename the Gulf to the Gulf of America. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, with bipartisan support, we voted to protect our universities and taxpayer dollars from Communist China’s influence by cutting the Department of Homeland Security funding to schools tied to Chinese Communist Party backed institutions. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is the University Emergency Medical Response of UT Dallas, named the 2025 Collegiate EMS Organization of the Year by the National Collegiate EMS Foundation. Thank you to these awesome volunteers for keeping the UT Dallas community safe! Congressional App Challenge Registration is now open for the 2025 Congressional App Challenge! Middle and high school students are invited to submit an original app for a chance to win our district specific challenge! The competition deadline is October 30th, so get building!!
