A Note from Holly Kuzmich, Executive Director of the George W. Bush Institute

Like many of you, we've spent the last few weeks reading, listening, watching, talking, learning, unlearning, and reflecting on the meaningful work necessary to create lasting change in our country around race and equality.

This week's Five for Friday includes important conversations and perspectives that we've revisited or that have been shared with us in recent weeks. They've inspired us, challenged us, and humbled us.
We all have a role to play. Together, we will do better.

In Focus

VIEWPOINTS | Listening to the Presidential Leadership Scholars
Black Presidential Leadership Scholars are lending their voices to a number of publications to provide perspective into the racial divide in this country. Read a sampling of their insights in articles by Chike Aguh <[link removed]>, Tynesia Boyea-Robinson <[link removed]>, Shareefah Mason <[link removed]>, and Byron Sanders <[link removed]>.

RESOURCES | Challenging Us to Action
The Bush Center staff and our leadership program participants, like the Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program scholars, are exchanging resources around the issues of equality, bias, privilege, and racism. Two of the podcasts that have been recommended are Confessions of a Native Son <[link removed]> and Unlocking Us with Brenè Brown. <[link removed]> As we continue to compile and expand our lists, we’ll share more with you. We hope you’ll send us your recommendations, too.

THE CATALYST | Is America's Democracy Really Working for All?
Protecting democracy requires a commitment to ensuring all Americans are receiving equal benefits and opportunities. Presidential Leadership Scholars Isabel González Whitaker, Chequan Lewis, and Tina Tran share their views on how well our democracy is working, and how the differences are particularly acute among people of color.

THE CATALYST & STRATEGERIST | Faith, Guidance, and Unity
Pastors Bryan Carter and Jeff Warren have been working together to bridge community gaps since the 2014 rise in racial tension across the nation. They recently discussed this, along with the COVID-19 crisis, with the Bush Center’s Rhonda Houston in The Catalyst. Next week, the three will join The Strategerist podcast to continue the discussion on race and equality in our communities.
