John --

Imagine that you've hurt your knee and you've come to my office for an evaluation.

I'm an orthopedic surgeon, so I give you an exam but don't see anything broken or torn. My medical expertise says you need a referral for physical therapy. But then a politician bursts through the office door and tells me I can't give you sound medical advice, even if you ask.

And if I give you the advice, I'd lose the ability to accept patients from Medicare or Medicaid.

Sounds ridiculous, right?

Unfortunately, that's essentially what is happening with millions of women across the country, and tens of thousands right here in Alaska. Many women depend on Planned Parenthood and other organizations for birth control, cancer screenings, STI treatment, and other forms of reproductive care.

But at midnight last night, a "gag rule" went into effect from the Trump administration. It prohibits doctors at reproductive health clinics from discussing abortion with a patient, even if they ask. And if they do, they can lose their federal funding.

I'm a doctor and I stand with Planned Parenthood. They should not be coerced into withholding constitutionally-protected and medically-sound advice because of extreme special interests. If you agree, please rush a donation to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and our campaign to help fight back against this rule right now.

Millions of women and patients could lose access to their doctors -- or worse, delay or forgo critical treatment because of the gag rule.

And Alaska will be the hardest hit by this since more than 70 percent of those who receive care through Title X in our state do so through Planned Parenthood centers in in Juneau, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Soldotna. A quarter of those patients are also uninsured.

I'll be a U.S. Senator who fights to make healthcare, including reproductive care, affordable and accessible to all Alaskans. And you can be sure that I'll protect your right to keep deeply personal medical decisions between you, your family, and your doctor.

That's why I'm urging you to rush a donation to both the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and our campaign today.
