This Saturday, May 10, union members across Arizona and the country will once again demonstrate the true spirit of solidarity during the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive —the largest single-day food drive in the nation. Here in Phoenix, the Labor’s Community Service Agency (LCSA) was proud to assist NALC in launching this effort 32 years ago, helping to create what has become a powerful annual tradition rooted in compassion and union values.
AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler put it best: “Solidarity is the through thread and lifeblood of our movement… Solidarity with our neighbors and community members—especially in moments of struggle—is central to union principles… In our current political moment, where we’re witnessing attacks on essential social safety nets and on federal workers, the need for community solidarity is greater than ever.”
On Saturday, simply place a bag of non-perishable food items near your mailbox before your regular mail delivery. Your netter carrier will collect the donations during their route. All donations stay local and go directly to food banks and pantries in your community.
Since its inception in 1993, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has helped millions of families, and participation is easy, meaningful, and union strong. Not all NALC branches or rural offices may participate—check with your local post office or visit www.nalc.org/food to confirm local involvement.
Let’s show that solidarity doesn’t stop at the picket line. Join union members nationwide in the fight against hunger—because it’s always better in a union, and better when we care for one another.

Arizona Needs Reliable Internet Service & Good Jobs
$42 billion in public funding for internet infrastructure is on the line, and we need your voice! While CWA members have fought for investments in reliable fiber broadband that create good, union jobs, satellite company CEOs are pushing to redirect these funds to unreliable satellite services. Satellite internet lacks the necessary speeds, employs fewer workers, and has a short lifespan that leads to repeated investments.
⤵️Click on the link below and tell Governor Hobbs and the Arizona State Broadband Office to stand up to pressure to redirect funds to unreliable satellite internet service and continue to create good, union jobs by investing in reliable, high-speed fiber internet. ⤵️

Check out this week's review, written by Esau Gutierrez for a deeper dive:
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey is a beautifully written novel set in 1920s Alaska, where Jack and Mabel, an aging couple, are struggling to build a life after years of heartbreak. One winter evening, they shape a child out of snow for fun, and soon after, a real, wild young girl named Faina begins appearing in the woods near their home. As she enters their lives, their world shifts. Isolation turns into connection, and grief into fragile joy.
Specifically, for or union working parents, this story may resonate deeply. It’s about trying to raise something meaningful in the middle of hardship, whether it’s a family, a future, or a life built on your own terms. Jack’s fear of being seemingly forced into the coal mines is a quiet but powerful reminder of what many working people know all too well. The tension between survival and autonomy. Like organizing, like parenting, this book is about forging hope in harsh places, even when the outcome is uncertain.
