Federal Funding for SNAP and Medicaid is in danger.

Proposals at the federal level to gut funding for Medicaid and SNAP are creating intense debates among federal representatives. Next week, members of the Agriculture Committee could vote on the proposed $230 billion cuts to SNAP funding.

Representative Dan Newhouse is the federal Congressman from Central WA representing the 4th district, which includes areas such as Yakima and the Tri-Cities. Rep. Newhouse has expressed opposition to these disastrous cuts, but needs to hear from his constituents soon to give him more support for a NO vote.

Cuts to the SNAP program would devastate families who rely on the support keep nutritious food on their tables, just as cuts to Medicaid would limit crucial access to basic healthcare for millions. Rep. Newhouse's district has the highest SNAP caseload in Washington, and about 40% of his constituents rely on Medicaid for their healthcare. These programs ensure wellbeing and dignity for millions across the nation, helping people meet their most basic needs and building the foundations for them to thrive.

Here are actions you can take to help preserve this lifeline funding:

1) Call Rep. Newhouse, especially if you live in his district (but calls from residents of other districts help too!). Give Rep. Newhouse the support he needs to stand up to pressure from other Republicans and vote NO to SNAP cuts.
