Every year, the President sends a budget request [[link removed]] to congress. Budgets are laws passed by congress. Budgets say what the government pays for over the next year. A budget request is when the President tells Congress what they would like the budget to look like. The President’s budget request is a recommendation to Congress, not a law.

Last Friday, the President released a preview of his budget. It doesn’t tell us everything about the budget, but it gives us an idea of what the full budget will look like. The preview shows that the President wants to end a lot of programs that help people. It also wants to give other programs a lot less money, change how they work in very big ways, or move the programs around. All of these decisions could hurt people if they happen. That’s why it’s important that we are prepared and know how to take action!
