![]() Today is the final day of Teacher Appreciation Week, and I couldn't be more grateful to the thousands of teachers across Kansas who have dedicated their lives to inspiring the next generation. But our teachers deserve far more than just recognition. They deserve better pay, more resources and supplies, and consistent support from their government. And right now, it’s clear that Republican leadership has little interest in actually offering that support. That’s why I wanted to reach out and ask: Will you sign my new petition calling on Congress to stand up for teachers and support public education? I am a proud product of Kansas public schools, so I understand that teachers do so much more than just classroom instruction. They serve as mentors, role models, support systems, and helping hands for children who are just beginning to learn about the world and themselves. At times, our teachers are juggling a dozen different jobs at once. But right now, that hard work is not valued enough by our leaders in government. And because of their inaction, states across the country, including Kansas, are facing serious teacher shortages. It’s clear that National Republicans are unwilling to offer real solutions to teachers and students across the country. Instead, they’re more than happy to play politics with public education — all while our children are forced to suffer the consequences.
This Teacher Appreciation Week, I couldn’t be more thankful for my own teachers growing up, and the hard work of our nation’s teachers today. -Sharice |
