AFGE Family,
In recognition of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments will be bringing the voices of our LGBTQ+ AFGE members to the forefront by hosting “The Many Faces of Pride: Being LGBTQ in the Workplace,” a virtual panel on Facebook Live. This panel will highlight the realities of some of our LGBTQ+ members and leaders. The panelists will bring attention to the gaps that still exist in AFGE and our union’s workplace advocacy.
Please join us on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. EST on the AFGE Facebook page for this live event. Click here to view the live event on Tuesday.
Even today, the LGBTQ+ community still faces layers of discrimination throughout our society. From being barred from service at certain private businesses, to being denied housing due to their sexual orientation and gender identity, to being rejected from job opportunities and advancements-- this community is denied equal access and opportunity daily. We need to keep fighting for our LGBTQ+ partners and counter oppressive and out of touch narratives that stigmatize the community.
