John,

Four years ago today, the Orlando community was forever changed after the Pulse nightclub shooting claimed 49 innocent lives and left 53 others injured - making it the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ+ community in our country's history.

Although the pain we feel from this senseless act of violence against our LGBTQ+, Latinx, and African-American brothers and sisters will never get easier, it is a reminder to continue fighting to ensure that this will never happen again.

We have chosen to honor the victims by reaching across the aisle to pass critical reform in the areas of gun safety and LGBTQ+ protections. While we have accomplished key victories, there is still a lot of work left to be done.

I am pleased to announce that the U.S. House will have a vote on our bill with Representatives Demings and Murphy to designate the site the Pulse National Memorial by the end of June. I hope this will provide some solace to so many of us during this time of mourning. For the past four years, it has served as a symbol of who we are as an Orlando Strong community. We confront adversity with love, hope, and a rallying cry for change.

I know that this difficult time can bring about a variety of emotions. So as always, I encourage you to reach out (click here: [email protected]) if you need anything or have something to say. I am proud to be a part of this community and promise to never stop fighting for our 49 angels.

With love,

Darren----
