Dear Friend,

As Congress continues to craft the reconciliation package, I wanted to update you on what’s happening here in Wisconsin.

As Telegram readers know, Governor Evers issued a directive instructing state employees to block immigration enforcement, even when the federal agents present a valid warrant.

This is not only wrong, but it is also reckless.

Governor Evers should never place state employees in a position that could put them at odds with federal immigration law. That’s why I called on him to rescind his dangerous order.

However, instead of protecting state employees from potential legal trouble, Governor Evers doubled down, making some bizarre statements this week – all of which were caught on video. He described visiting areas of Wisconsin where “there’s huge number of undocumented workers,” adding that “the number of white people, white kids in the schools you can count on one hand,” adding that “you go downtown and every store is Spanish speaking.”

Then he proudly declared, It’s working, goddammit!” What exactly is working? His plan to flood Wisconsin with cheap labor, undermine the rule of law, and roll out the welcome mat for illegal aliens?

Sadly, that wasn’t the only example of the Left’s lawlessness this week.

Down in Dane County, a criminal illegal alien with felony charges for nearly killing someone was released back onto our streets. In true Dane County fashion, Court Commissioner Brian Asmus lowered his bail, and then Sheriff Kalvin Barrett ignored an ICE detainer and released him. You can read more about that here.

Luckily, ICE was able to catch up to him later and arrest him. However, this highlights a pattern from Democrat officials in Wisconsin.

Whether it is Governor Evers directing state employees to block immigration enforcement, Milwaukee Judge Dugan helping an illegal alien evade arrest, or Dane County Sheriff Barrett ignoring ICE and releasing a criminal, Wisconsin Democrats are protecting illegal aliens over the safety of Wisconsinites.

I will continue to fight to cut federal funding for sanctuary jurisdictions like Dane County. I will also continue to push Congress to get this reconciliation bill done to not just secure the border and carry out commonsense immigration enforcement, but also prevent across-the-board tax hikes, cut wasteful spending, and root out waste, fraud, and abuse.

Thanks again for starting off your weekend with us, and don’t forget to get your mom something nice for Mother’s Day! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Tiffany Telegram.

Sincerely,

Ending the Green New Scam

Despite its name, the Biden administration’s so-called "Inflation Reduction Act" (IRA) did nothing to ease inflation on hardworking Americans. One year after its implementation in 2023, inflation was still up 15%, grocery prices rose almost 20%, and gas prices were up nearly 62%. This goes to show that the IRA was never about reducing inflation – it was simply a Trojan horse for the Left’s radical climate crusade, packed with Green New Scam handouts. In fact, over the next decade, the IRA is set to cost taxpayers roughly $1 trillion. That’s why I joined 38 of my colleagues in sending a letter last week calling for the full repeal of the IRA through reconciliation. You can read the letter here. Many of you also know I’ve been leading the charge against the conversion of farmland into wind and solar industrial sites. This is directly tied to the IRA, as it expanded billions in subsidies for wind and solar complexes. To stop these land grabs and protect our agricultural land for future generations, I introduced the FARM Act, which would eliminate these wasteful green energy giveaways. Both the repeal of the IRA and passage of the FARM Act are critical steps to stopping the Green New Scam.

Lowering the tax burden on seniors

After spending most of their lives working hard, paying taxes, and contributing to the economy, our nation’s seniors deserve to retire with more financial security, not less. That’s why I cosponsored the Bonus Tax Relief for America’s Seniors Act introduced by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), which will increase the additional bonus deduction for seniors 65 and older when filing their taxes. Current law allows seniors to claim a deduction of $1,950 for a single person or $3,100 for married couples. Not only is this confusing, it also imposes a penalty on couples – causing seniors to claim less simply because they are married. This bill would increase this standard deduction to $5,000 for single filers or $10,000 for married seniors, ultimately reducing the tax burden on all seniors and allowing them to enjoy more of the retirement income they earned throughout their lives. You can read more about this bill here.

Supporting small businesses

As we celebrate National Small Business Week, I want to recognize the dedicated entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our economy. It’s important to remember to shop small and local, but it’s also equally important for Congress to ensure our small businesses are not hamstrung by regulations and red tape. For this reason, I signed onto the Repealing Big Brother Overreach Act, which would abolish the so-called “Corporate Transparency Act.” This Biden-era law requires small businesses to register in a new federal database. If they fail to do so, the penalty could include jail time. I am also working to protect crucial tax relief that businesses depend on. Key provisions from the Trump-era Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), like Section 199A, which allows eligible taxpayers to deduct up to a 20% small business deduction, full expensing through 100% bonus depreciation, and the R&D expensing tax credit, are set to expire soon. In other words, if Congress doesn’t act, small businesses could face higher taxes. Washington needs to make it easier to run a business, not harder. That’s why we must make the TCJA permanent and cut the bureaucratic hurdles hindering job creation.

I enjoyed touring Henry Repeating Arms in Rice Lake last Friday. This year, they made the exciting decision to bring all manufacturing to Wisconsin, and we’re fortunate to have them expand their operations in our community.

Committee Update

Reconciliation markup

Very early in the morning on Wednesday, the Natural Resources Committee passed our reconciliation language that will generate over $18.5 billion in new revenue and savings. It’s a win-win for taxpayers, generating more revenue by unleashing American energy dominance, and creating and sustaining family wage jobs by expanding domestic mining projects, and increasing timber sales and harvesting right here in the USA. It also targets Biden-era wasteful slush funds and eliminates them, saving millions of taxpayer dollars. The provisions of this bill are crucial to bring fiscal sanity back to Washington, and my two committees – Natural Resources and Judiciary – have completed two successful portions of the reconciliation bill. I look forward to the full House passing the complete package soon.
