Secretary of the Treasury at House Financial Services Hearing

Congressman Sessions speaks in Wednesday's FSC hearing

This week, I participated in a House Financial Services Committee hearing with the Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to review the current state of the United States economy and the international finance system. I applauded Secretary Bessent on bringing in 177,000 new private-sector jobs, clear evidence of American growth. I also commended the Secretary Bessent and this Administration for reversing Biden’s soft-on-China policies and taking meaningful steps in protecting American jobs and intellectual property. I asked Secretary Bessent about further efforts to limit fossil fuel revenues brought in by Russia, which continue to finance their brutal war against Ukraine. I support tougher sanctions to cut off these funds and weaken Russia’s ability to wage war. I look forward to seeing continued American growth under the leadership of Secretary Bessent and this Administration. You can view my remarks to the Secretary here.

Pandemic Response Accountability Committee

Congressman Sessions and staff meet with the PRAC
On Monday, I met with members of the Pandemic Accountability Response Committee (PRAC) to discuss the vital work they continue to do to uncover and prevent fraud related to COVID-19 relief funds. Originally created to detect misuse of pandemic aid, PRAC is scheduled to shut down in August and begin destroying critical data, despite the fact that pandemic fraud remains an ongoing issue. That is why I introduced HR 2277, the FACT Act to extend the PRAC and ensure accountability to the taxpayer. The FACT Act reported favorably out of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, a major step in the bipartisan fight against fraud.

Graphic Packaging

Congressman Sessions meets with Graphic Packaging
It was great to meet with Graphic Packaging this week, with manufacturing mills across the nation, Graphic Packaging boasts one of Waco’s largest manufacturing facility. The facility produces recycled paperboard used in countless everyday products and exemplifies the power of American innovation. Waco continues to stand out as a hub for manufacturing excellence and economic development. Companies like Graphic Packaging not only create high-quality, sustainable products but also generate good-paying jobs and drive growth in our region. I’ll continue working to support our local manufacturers, promote workforce development, and strengthen supply chains right here in Central Texas.

Congressman Sessions and the Pahmiyer family

Last Friday, I was in Waco to celebrate Allan Pahmiyer’s appointment to the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2029. Allan’s dedication, character, and leadership reflect the best of TX-17. Earning an appointment to one of our nation’s service academies is no small achievements, it’s a testament to Allan’s hard work and commitment to service. I have no doubt he will make our community proud. Congratulations, Allan!

Camp Hope

Congressman Sessions and veterans at Camp Hope

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to visit Camp Hope at Cross Creek Meadows in Thornton, where I witnessed firsthand the extraordinary work being done to support our nation’s veterans and their families. Camp Hope, a program of the PTSD Foundation of America, stands on the frontlines of healing for those living with PTSD, offering services like counseling, peer support, and equine therapy in a safe, compassionate environment. Their commitment to restoring hope and dignity to those who have sacrificed so much is inspiring. Camp Hope believes that the path to healing often begins with community and compassion. I’m deeply grateful for their work in supporting our veterans every step of the way.

Legislation of the Week

H.R. 881DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act
This week, I voted YES the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act to protect national security and ensure taxpayer dollars aren't funding institutions with ties to hostile foreign governments. This bill prevents DHS funding to any college or university that maintains partnerships with Confucius Institutes, the Thousand Talents Program, or other Chinese entities connected to the Chinese military or intelligence services. If schools want to continue receiving DHS funds, they must cut ties with these programs. U.S. security interests must come first.

H.R. 276Gulf of America Act of 2025
I voted YES to the Gulf of America Act of 2025, a straightforward bill that renames the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. This legislation directs all federal agencies to update official documents and maps to reflect the new name. This is the first legislation to codify an executive order by President Trump.
