John,
Last week, the House Education Committee held a markup for the annual congressional budget.
I called out Republicans for proposing major cuts to Pell Grants and student loan programs, which would force students toward predatory private loan markets and increase the already extreme debt that so many students face. 50% of students in the higher education system would not be able to receive the financial aid they need to complete their degree.
This would make college less affordable and reduce the number of students pursuing a college degree.
And for what gain? All to provide tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy in this nation?
I will not let this stand. Over 50% of college students in my district rely on Pell Grants. I will not let the GOP eliminate this lifeline.
Education is supposed to be the great equalizer, but this legislation would perpetuate inequality.
Your support helps me fight back against the cruel cuts to education proposed by the GOP. Please chip in to help me protect our students, teachers, and schools from losing funding to pass the Trump tax cuts for billionaires.
