Foxx Report

The American economy has come roaring back under President Trump’s leadership. In case you missed it, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently released the April jobs report, and it revealed that 170,000 jobs were added last month. This was the second consecutive month where the number of jobs created beat expectations. This is great news indeed, and it’s a testament to the pro-growth, pro-workforce agenda of President Trump and our Republican majorities in the People’s House and the United States Senate.

Here are a few examples of job growth within different sectors of the market:

  • Private education and health services: +70,000 Jobs
  • Transportation and warehousing: +29,000 Jobs
  • Leisure and hospitality: +24,000 Jobs
  • Professional and business services: +17,000 Jobs
  • Financial activities: +14,000 Jobs

The wages of Americans continue to rise – with real average hourly wages increasing nearly four percent over the past year. Construction employment also increased for the third straight month, adding 11,000 new jobs with no signs of labor shortages. It’s also important to note that the federal government cut jobs for the third straight month in alignment with President Trump’s important, bold vision to right-size the federal bureaucracy. April was yet another month of wins for the American people, and the numbers do not lie. As White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said recently, “More winning is on the way!”.

Confronting Antisemitism

This week, I pressed three university presidents who appeared before the House Committee on Education & Workforce about how they were responding to antisemitic demonstrations and activity on their respective campuses. Antisemitism continues to corrode post-secondary education at institutions across the nation, and it should be confronted head on. Jewish students, faculty, and staff on college campuses deserve a safe learning environment – not one where they are subjected to threats and violence from those who believe Israel does not have a right to exist.

Important News

This Wednesday, the Real ID requirement for traveling on domestic flights came into effect. For those who do not know, the Real ID, per the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), establishes “minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibit federal agencies from accepting for certain official purposes noncompliant driver’s licenses and identification cards”. While this deadline has passed, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that air travelers without Real ID may face extra screening at airports but are still able to fly.
