Every two minutes, a woman dies from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
At Americares, we know maternal and newborn deaths are largely preventable with skilled health workers, the right medicines and safe delivery conditions. That’s why we’re working every day to help more mothers and babies survive and thrive around the world.
Thanks to supporters like you, mothers like Agnes in Tanzania are alive and healthy today. When Agnes’ water broke weeks before her due date, she rushed to a hospital that Americares supports, where trained doctors and nurses were ready. Her son was born early, barely over three pounds. With antibiotics, expert care and a lifesaving technique called kangaroo care, both mother and baby are doing well.
And your support is helping in other critical ways:
- In Liberia, midwives trained through Americares programs are bringing babies safely into the world – even reviving newborns who arrive silent and still.
- Clinics are being equipped with essential supplies, from antibiotics to birthing kits, so no woman is left without care when she needs it most.

Americares teams are providing education in family planning and postnatal care to help keep mothers and babies healthy long after delivery.
