Each May, Mental Health Awareness Month shines a light on the importance of mental well-being and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness. With one in five adults experiencing a mental health condition each year, it’s critical to raise awareness, encourage open conversations, and connect Texans to the resources they need.
Mental health affects every aspect of our lives, from relationships and productivity to physical health. Early intervention, community support, and accessible treatment can make a huge difference in recovery and quality of life.
If you or someone you know is struggling, Texas offers a variety of free or low-cost resources:
- Texas Health and Human Services Mental Health Services:
- 9-8-8 Lifeline:
- A confidential, 24/7 helpline that connects individuals to trained crisis counselors that provide free and confidential emotional support and crisis counseling to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
- Connect them with mental health resources in their area.
- Dial 9-8-8 or visit 9-8-8 Lifeline
- Texas Youth Helpline:
- Free, confidential support for youth and families facing crisis or conflict.
- Call or text: 1-800-989-6884

Mental health is as important as physical health. This May, let’s check in on ourselves, reach out to those around us, and help ensure every Texan knows where to turn for help. Sharing resources and starting conversations can make a powerful impact.
