The Trump administration moved to illegally fire 90% of AmeriCorps’ workforce, effectively ending the agency’s ability to run its vital volunteer aid programs.
It’s simple: AmeriCorps is an independent federal agency established by Congress. The President does not have the authority to unilaterally terminate it. That’s not how our system works. And it’s why I’m leading a coalition of 24+ State Attorneys General to sue Trump in court— again.
Here in Colorado, AmeriCorps volunteers are essential. They have supported veterans’ services, wildfire mitigation, and provide tutoring services to help students recover from pandemic learning loss. In 2024 alone, AmeriCorps members contributed over one million hours of service across all of Colorado’s 64 counties.
The fight is personal for me. National service shapes young lives and strengthens our future. I refuse to allow Trump to dismantle critical programs that so many Coloradans depend on.
I have never hesitated to stand up to Donald Trump and his cabinet—and defend the public services Coloradans rely on.
