John,
It's been four years since the unspeakable tragedy at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. So today, we remember the 49 lives lost -- and survivors and first responders -- whose lives were forever changed by this heartbreaking act of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community.
We cannot let hate and ignorance win -- too many of our communities have been torn apart by prejudice and gun violence. We cannot give up our fight to win the life-saving reforms we so desperately need to keep the most vulnerable among us safe.
It's important to remember that the Black community, communities of color, and LGBTQIA+ people -- particularly our transgender friends and neighbors -- are disproportionately impacted by Trump and Mitch McConnell's continued inaction on prevention initiatives for hate-related gun violence. So as we honor the Pulse victims and survivors during Pride month and amidst a national call for justice for the Black community, we must recognize that our solutions must be as intersectional as the injustices we face.
My heart breaks for every person who lives in fear each and every day of their lives. We can and must do better, John.
In solidarity,
Dwight
