VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump appoints Fox News' Judge Jeanine to top position
Strap in, folks! Donald Trump has turned to yet another Fox teevee talker for yet another top post, this time tapping Judge Jeanine — yes, Judge Jeanine Pirro — to be the TOP prosecutor in Washington, DC. Pirro will apparently take a break from drunkenly shouting about her many phobias on the Fox News airwaves to become the interim US attorney for the District of Columbia. The same Judge Jeanine who was named in the $787 million Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit for spreading election lies, who was suspended by Fox News for Islamaphobic comments, and whose convicted husband was granted a last-minute pardon by Trump in 2021 for tax evasion. This is who the MAGA cult leader just put in charge of federal prosecutions in our nation's capital. If America was not yet great again, Jeanine running amok around DC will surely push us over the top. Someone at SNL better get Cecily Strong and her wine goblet on speed dial.

Furious residents surround ICE agents trying to arrest mom clinging to baby
An ICE operation spiraled into chaos on a Worcester, Massachusetts, street Thursday morning after agents detained a woman clinging to her baby as neighbors surrounded them, demanding a warrant. Dramatic footage circulating online shows about 25 residents swarming the ICE vehicle on Eureka Street, demanding agents identify themselves. Screaming can be heard in the video as agents attempt to control the crowd before police tackle one individual. "We don't have to show you anything," one agent reportedly shot back when asked for ID or a warrant. The woman’s teen daughter was left holding the woman’s baby and stood in front of the car in an apparent attempt to stop it. After handing her infant sibling to another person, she allegedly kicked the car and was subsequently arrested on four charges — including child endangerment. Seriously. Police have not disclosed what happened to the baby afterward. America, y'all.

GOP silent as Trump and Elon backstab our veterans
VoteVets: Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s relentless efforts to gut the federal government and dismantle its agencies is a full-fledged attack on our veterans. One-third of the federal workforce are veterans. DOGE’s budget cuts are gutting veteran livelihoods, public service careers, and threatening their access to essential care. That’s why VoteVets is launching a movement to fight back and restore the institutions that our vets risked their lives to protect. Will you add your name and stand with our veterans against Donald Trump’s rampage?
Famed New York law firm bleeding employees as Trump deal backfires
Who could've possibly foreseen widespread backlash from dedicated, career litigators and lawyers less than pleased at the prospect of being forced to provide $100 MILLION in pro bono legal work for the most corrupt, lawless American president in modern history? The Wall Street Journal reported that lawyers are exiting Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in anger after the firm struck its heinous deal with the convicted felon and wannabe dictator. Cadwalader, New York’s oldest firm, made the deal to skate punitive damages made by Trump’s February flurry of executive orders targeting law firms that he said were "weaponizing" the legal system against him. Plenty of weaponization going on, but pretty sure it's not being directed at Donald at this point.

Israeli airstrikes decimate the last restaurant in Gaza City in nightmarish bloodbath
Israeli missiles hit the last operating restaurant in Gaza City and a marketplace, killing over 33 people and wounding at least 90 more, most of them women and children. Among the dead was Yahya Sobeih, a journalist who often would finish his stories at the restaurant. Sobeih's daughter was born hours before his death; his wife suffered a nervous breakdown at the news. Head chef Abu Saleh Abdo was in a state of disbelief that he had survived the massacre. "How long will we keep dying every day? Children, women, the elderly, even animals haven’t been spared from the killing. There were no fighters here, just customers and some families trying to relive fragments of their past lives. What was their crime to be bombed like this? It’s absolute savagery."

Pope Leo XIV makes history as first US pope chosen to lead Roman Catholic Church
The 133 cardinals who assembled in the Vatican for the top-secret conclave have chosen the Roman Catholic Church’s first US-born pope: Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost. Prevost, who will now go by his selected papal name of Pope Leo XIV, succeeds the late Pope Francis, who died at age 88 last month. Thousands filled the streets of Vatican City and cheered as Pope Leo XIV, a 69-year-old native of Chicago and polyglot with dual nationalities, stepped out on the balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square to cheers while wearing red and white. His appearance came roughly an hour after plumes of white smoke streamed from a Sistine Chapel chimney Thursday, signaling that a new leader of the Roman Catholic Church ― a faith with more than 1 billion followers ― had been selected by a two-thirds majority vote of the cardinals, the church’s most senior clergy under the pope.
Democrats cave, prepare to rubber stamp Trump crypto corruption
Despite the twists and turns and drama-creation that accompanies political media, most of the actions taken in Congress are actually pretty tightly choreographed with a foregone conclusion. First you find the votes, then you take the votes, as the saying goes. But for a minute, there was a genuinely uncertain situation happening on Capitol Hill, as a handful of Democrats who wanted to give a big gift to the crypto industry had to weigh that against one of the most obvious and insane grifts in presidential history. Unfortunately, they opted for the big gift, while teeing up a fake stab at accountability for Trump that is designed to fail and give pro-crypto Democrats a convenient alibi.

Only 9/11 and COVID have been worse for US tourism than Trump
Pump the brakes. It's very early in Donald's second reign of chaos, and there's so much havoc for the MAGA cult leader yet to wreak.
A fight over Medicaid cuts is threatening GOP plans for Trump's "big, beautiful bill"
Oh, hey. Look who's infighting again over how best to screw over half the country. Predictable Republican divisions over changes to Medicaid are becoming the chief hurdle to getting Donald Trump's major tax, immigration, and energy agenda through Congress. While the GOP is united in its mission to deliver a massive tax cut for the superwealthy, GOP lawmakers who represent swing districts insist they will not vote for any proposal that strips Medicaid benefits, on account of not wanting to lose their cushy gigs. But conservatives are demanding deep cuts in spending and say restructuring Medicaid is one of the clearest ways to achieve that goal AND stick it to the lower class. What a party.
Democratic lawmakers blast Trump administration’s VA cuts after ProPublica investigation
Democratic House members on Thursday blasted the Trump administration’s moves to shrink the Department of Veterans Affairs and demanded more transparency from its leaders after a ProPublica investigation revealed widespread disruptions across the agency’s healthcare system. This week, ProPublica reported on dozens of emails sent from staff at VA hospitals and clinics across the country to headquarters warning how cuts could, and in some cases are, degrading the agency’s ability to provide for the roughly 9 million veterans who rely on it. Hiring freezes and other edicts from the White House have left medical providers scrambling and short-staffed amid an ever-shifting series of policy moves, including the cancellation of contracts with companies that maintain cancer registries, the emails said. Staffers at VA centers in Pennsylvania warned the cuts were causing "severe and immediate impacts," including to "life-saving cancer trials."
