should be a wake-up call for all of us

Earlier this week, voters in Georgia headed to the polls to vote in their primary election, and while predominantly white communities were able to vote without issue, predominantly Black communities encountered issues with voting machines, a shortage of ballots, and long wait times that stretched more than four hours in some cases.

What happened in Georgia should serve as a wake-up call ahead of November. We must do everything we can to protect voting rights for all Americans and that includes instituting a universal vote-by-mail option. .

While some states have begun to lift stay-at-home orders, local officials are still asking folks to practice social distancing and wear masks to protect from the coronavirus. Voting by mail is a common-sense solution that will keep voters safe and healthy as they cast their ballots.

But if we’re going to implement a nationwide vote-by-mail option before Election Day and work to ensure the security of our elections, we need to act now.

We need to put pressure on Congress to take action to protect our health and the integrity of our elections. Will you sign our emergency petition before midnight tonight and tell Congress to institute a universal vote-by-mail option before November?
