Once again, Donald Trump’s administration is attacking civil rights. This time, they’re trying to weaken protections that ensure fair housing opportunities for all.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development just put forward a rule that guts critical requirements meant to combat housing discrimination, despite them being mandated by the Fair Housing Act. It walks back requirements that address patterns of segregation, prevent discrimination, and promote diverse communities.
This move undermines decades of hard-won progress. It clearly ignores the law’s intent and makes it easier for the government to look the other way when individuals and families are discriminated against.
We aren’t letting them get away with this. That’s why Rob co-led a coalition of 18 attorneys general who sent a letter to the administration calling out this proposal for ignoring the law and making it harder to advance equity in housing.
Our Attorney General will never be quiet or sit idly by when Trump attacks California’s ability to make progress for our people. That’s why he co-led this letter, and why he’s been hard at work protecting the Golden State. But we need your help to keep him focused on these fights instead of fundraising.
Thank you,
Team Bonta
