"Governor discusses family tax cut proposal in Youngstown "

Governor and First Lady DeWine tour Eagle's Christian Preschool & Child Care in Youngstown.

(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today toured Eagle's Christian Preschool & Child Care in Youngstown. During his visit, the Governor discussed his proposed family tax cut—an initiative aimed at easing the financial burden for working families across Ohio.

“We have parents with young children who are working hard every day and yet are still feeling strained. Investing in our families is worth it because, when our families are stronger, all of Ohio is stronger,” said Governor DeWine. “My family tax cut proposal will provide real relief to parents—helping with costs of food, clothes, diapers, and other essential needs, so more families can thrive.”

Under the family tax cut proposal, working families would receive a tax cut of up to $1,000 for each child under the age of seven. This would help 450,000 families in Ohio.

Research shows that families receiving tax relief can better afford basic needs, demonstrate less financial stress, and create a more stable home environment for their children.

The Governor toured the facility, visited classrooms, and met with staff members to learn more about the center's early childhood programs.

Eagle's Christian Preschool & Child Care is a top-rated child care facility in the state, earning gold level status through the Ohio Department of Children and Youth's Step Up to Quality program. They also offer early childhood education with curriculum aligned with the Science of Reading.

Eagle’s Christian Preschool & Child Care currently serves over 400 children and over 200 families in their three locations across northeast Ohio, many of whom receive state support for child care through Ohio’s Child Care Choice Voucher Program—another priority in the Governor’s executive budget proposal.

The Child Care Choice Voucher Program [ [link removed] ] provides financial assistance to eligible families, helping them access quality child care while parents work, attend school, or participate in job training. Administered by DCY, the program supports early learning and development by ensuring children receive care in safe, nurturing environments.

The family tax cut proposal and the Child Care Choice Voucher Program are part of the Governor's broader work to support families, invest in Ohio's future, and strengthen communities. Last week, Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] a new initiative—Partner for Change—which aims to improve birth outcomes and reduce infant mortality rates in several regions across Ohio.
