President's Message May signifies several health observances important to school nurses and individuals focused on promoting school and public health, including Lupus Awareness, a time to educate, advocate, and support those affected by lupus. School nurses are essential for transitioning students with lupus from pediatric to adult care. NASN offers two NCPD courses: "Understanding Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Children and Young Adults," and "Pediatric to Adult Care Transition for Students with Childhood Onset Lupus - The School Nurse Role in Care Coordination and Transition Planning." These provide tools, resources, and strategies to support a smooth transition from pediatric to adult health care. May is also Asthma Awareness Month, a time to take action and raise awareness for the over 26 million people in the US living with asthma.
