[link removed] [[link removed]] John, we just reached the end of Montana’s legislative session, and we want to level with you: There were some disappointing lows, but Montana Democrats were still able to move our state forward, despite being in the minority. Let us explain:
* We renewed Medicaid expansion , which will protect access to affordable health care for over 80,000 Montanans and keep our state’s rural hospitals open.
* We passed legislation to support teachers , directing $100 million toward raising starting teacher pay in Montana’s public schools.
* We made critical investments in affordable housing , working with moderate Republicans to pass a bipartisan state budget.
* And we defeated every extremist attempt to politicize our courts , ensuring that political parties won’t have undue influence over our justice system.
John, Montana Democrats passed legislation that will benefit families and communities in every corner of the state. On the other hand, extreme Montana Republicans were solely focused on giving handouts to their rich friends. Listen, we aren’t going to lie: This wasn’t a perfect legislative session for us. Despite our best efforts, Republicans still jammed through a massive tax cut for the top one percent. But even with that in mind, we couldn’t be more proud of our state’s Democratic legislators.
They worked, scratched, clawed, and fought every single day to find common ground and uplift our state, all while never compromising on our Democratic values.
