VIDEO OF THE DAY: Final race of 2024 resolved as Republican effort to steal high court seat finally fails
Let's hear it for judicial guardrails! North Carolina Republican Supreme Court sore loser Jefferson Griffin FINALLY conceded defeat after losing a decisive court battle to simply throw out 65,000 votes from 2024 — but only in the Supreme Court race — more than six months after Democrat Allison Riggs won by 734 votes in an absolute nailbiter. Brian Tyler Cohen sat down with Riggs to discuss the wild ordeal and what her hard-fought victory will mean for the people of North Carolina.

Sen. John Fetterman raises alarms with outburst at meeting with union officials, AP sources say
Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was meeting last week with representatives from a teachers union in his home state when things quickly devolved. Before long, the first-term senator began repeating himself, shouting and questioning why "everybody is mad at me," "why does everyone hate me, what did I ever do" and slamming his hands on a desk, according to one person who was briefed on what occurred. As the meeting deteriorated, a staff member moved to end it and ushered the visitors into the hallway, where she broke down crying. The staffer was comforted by the teachers who were themselves rattled by Fetterman’s behavior, according to a second person who was briefed separately on the meeting. The interaction at Fetterman’s Washington office, described to The Associated Press by the two people who spoke about it on the condition of anonymity, came the day before New York Magazine published a story in which former staff and political advisers to Fetterman aired serious concerns about the senator’s mental health.

Proven winner Chris Pappas announces bid to keep crucial New Hampshire Senate seat blue
Chris Pappas for Senate: Now that Senator Jeanne Shaheen is retiring, Chris Pappas is aiming to make history by becoming the first openly gay man elected to the US Senate and keep a vitally important Senate seat in Democratic hands. Rep. Chris Pappas has served New Hampshire for 20 years and has a proven track record of taking on the big fights — from battling Big Pharma to lowering drug prices to facing off with predatory companies that target veterans — while winning election after election in one of the swingiest districts in the country. If we're to have any chance of derailing Trump's appalling agenda of cruelty, chaos, and corruption, we need to retake the Senate AND we need to protect this must-win seat from whichever MAGA extremist tries to snatch it away. Will you help jump-start Chris Pappas' campaign with a donation?

Donald Trump taps wellness influencer close to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for surgeon general
Bobby "Brainworm" Kennedy, Jr. at HHS. Snake-oil salesman and teevee quack doc Mehmet Oz at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. And now social media wellness influencer Dr. Casey Means — who dropped out of her surgical residency to hawk dietary supplements, creams, teas, and other products online — for surgeon general. Who's next? Dr. Phil at the Dept. of Interior Thoughts? Doc Rivers as secretary of, um, DE-FENSE? Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown for the Department of Transportation? (Okay, we might be down with that last one, actually.

Trump administration steps up espionage efforts against...Greenland
Donald just can't seem to quit his childlike fascination with Greenland. According to The Wall Street Journal, several officials under Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sent a message to intelligence-agency heads last week ordering them to learn more about the autonomous territory's independence movement. They also directed agencies to use "surveillance satellites, communications intercepts, and spies" to learn more about national attitudes toward American resource extraction on the island and identify residents in both Greenland and Denmark who support Trump’s ambitions to simply claim the massive, icy island for the United States. Good f*cking grief, we don't need satellites and spies to tell us Greenlanders do not want Trump's cronies annexing their land and "extracting" resources for the economic benefit of the United States! You know why we know that? BECAUSE THEY F*CKING SAID SO!

RFK Jr.’s ex-running mate claims "someone is controlling" him
Nicole Shanahan, the former running mate of Robert F. Kennedy, claimed on Wednesday that somebody was "controlling" Kennedy’s decisions at the Department of Health and Human Services, following the announcement that wellness influencer Dr. Casey Means was tapped to become the next surgeon general. "Yes, it’s very strange. Doesn't make any sense. I was promised that if I supported RFK Jr. in his Senate confirmation" that neither Casey Means nor her brother Calley "would be working under HHS or in an appointment (and that people much more qualified would be)," wrote Shanahan. "I don't know if RFK very clearly lied to me, or what is going on. It has been clear in recent conversations that he is reporting to someone regularly who is controlling his decisions (and it isn't President Trump)." Okay, maybe. But are we sure it isn't the worm?
Trump calls Fed Chair Jerome Powell a "fool" after central bank keeps rates steady
The wannabe dictator and tariff tosser lambasted Jerome Powell, who he himself appointed in 2017, calling the Federal Reserve chairman a "fool" for daring to act independently and hold benchmark interest rates steady because of obvious economic uncertainty created by Trump's trade war crusade. Eloquent as ever, Donald thumb-smashed on social media: "'Too Late' Jerome Powell is a FOOL, who doesn't have a clue. Other than that, I like him very much! Oil and Energy way down, almost all costs (groceries and "eggs") down, virtually NO INFLATION, Tariff Money Pouring Into the US — THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF "TOO LATE!" ENJOY!" If your head is spinning, or you're wondering why eggs need quotation marks, please know you are not alone.
Melania has "spent less than 14 days" at the White House since Trump’s inauguration
Donald Trump's third wife clearly isn't too keen on being his first lady for a second time, having spent just a handful of days at the White House since the MAGA cult leader was unfortunately sworn in on January 20, 2025. It's cool, though. Donald makes it down to Florida regularly for his lavish, taxpayer-funded golf outings, so they surely see each other like passing ships in the night at Mar-a-Lago. Super normal stuff from our super normal first family.
Mexican-American congresswoman urges Americans not to visit Mexico: "I would never set foot" there
Florida GOP Rep. and self-described "pro-life extremist" Anna Paulina Luna urged parents not to send their children to Mexico for Spring Break on Wednesday, declaring she would "never set foot" in the country, despite her Mexican ancestry, due to its problem with violent drug cartels. In response to Donald Trump’s claim that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was "so afraid of the cartels she can't walk," Luna agreed, telling right-wing TV talker Eric Bolling that traveling to Mexico is "probably the worst thing that you can do" before talking up El Salvador President Nayib Bukele's hardline authoritarian efforts to dismantle democracy as a model for the region. What's a little demagoguery between neighbors?
Memphis police officers found not guilty on all state charges in Tyre Nichols beating death
Jurors have found three former Memphis police officers not guilty of all charges in the beating death of Tyre Nichols. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley and Justin Smith were acquitted Wednesday after a nine-day trial in state court in Memphis — more than two years after the January 2023 incident. Nichols fled from a traffic stop on January 7, 2023, after he was yanked out of his car, pepper-sprayed, and hit with a Taser. Five officers caught up with him and punched, kicked, and hit Nichols with a police baton, struggling to handcuff him as he called out for his mother near his home. Shocking footage of the beating captured by a police pole camera also showed the officers milling about, talking and laughing as Nichols struggled. The officers were charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression. They still face the possibility of years in prison after they were convicted of federal charges last year. Former Memphis officers Desmond Mills Jr. and Emmitt Martin also were charged in the case. They have agreed to plead guilty to the state charges and are not standing trial. They also pleaded guilty in federal court, where sentencing for all five officers is pending.
