A common topic parents and caregivers often ask us about is how to set healthy boundaries with a loved one.

In this video, our expert and helpline specialist Karla reminds us that healthy boundaries aren't about control—they protect both your relationship and your mental well-being. Whether it's emotional boundaries (stepping away from heated conversations) or financial ones (supporting without enabling), you're showing love even when it might not feel like it.

Interested in getting started on setting boundaries? Join our Online Support Community meeting where we'll explore the skill of setting healthy boundaries when parenting a child struggling with substance use.

In this meeting, we'll define what boundaries truly are—not rigid walls, but respectful guidelines that protect your values while maintaining relationships. You'll learn to recognize different boundary styles (rigid, inconsistent, non-existent, and healthy) and discover how to develop boundaries that are both clear and appropriately flexible.
