At the start of every term in Congress, I take the exact same Oath of Office as the President of the United States.
With my hand on the Bible, I solemnly swear to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It’s a responsibility I take incredibly seriously.
So when I heard Donald Trump say he “doesn’t know” whether he needs to uphold the Constitution, I was flabbergasted. In what world is that an acceptable answer??
Upholding the Constitution is literally the President’s job. But clearly Trump believes differently. And we don’t have to take him at his word, we can take him at his actions. He continues to undermine the rule of law, our system of checks and balances and the foundation of our democratic values. It should frighten every one of us.
We have to stop this assault on our democracy, and we need Democrats to win back the House. As one of the 13 Democrats representing a Trump district, I am on the frontlines of this fight - we have to win here to have any shot at taking back power.
