Peggy Shepard Interviewed by CBS on Environmental Justice

Discussing Environmental Racism, Climate Justice, & the Green New Deal

As COVID-19 continues to disproportionately kill people of color and renewed Black Lives Matter protests have taken to the streets all across the country, CBS News asked our Co-Founder and Executive Director Peggy Shepard to discuss how environmental issues disproportionately impact communities of color and what needs to be done to fix that. Whether you are new to the environmental justice movement or have been with us for the past three decades, it is well worth a read.

Excerpt: "When we talk about environmental racism and environmental injustice, we're also talking about being engaged in environmental decision-making. If people of color and low-income people who are most affected by the issues are never in the rooms where the decisions are being made and the solutions are being recommended, we are going to continue to have two different worlds, two different realities, like we're seeing right now today. Two different realities do not make a unified country."
