Trump recently signed an executive order that is threatening the funding to Smithsonian Museums across the country unless they remove ‘divisive’ exhibits. He is attempting to rewrite our country’s history to fit his political leanings and opinion.
Over 60% of the Smithsonian’s funding comes from the federal government. Any spending cuts would be significant and hurt our museums that attract many people and families.
He is forcing his right-wing ideology and influence over our country by scaring them into doing what he thinks is right and should be shown to the public. Trump is ordering the Smithsonian to remove exhibits and anything that is “race-centered.” This is simply right out of a wannabe dictator's playbook.
I will not let Trump erase and rewrite American history to his liking – I will fight back alongside my colleagues to put an end to these reckless attacks against the Smithsonian museums.
I signed a letter alongside my colleagues urging the inspector general of the Smithsonian to request an investigation into Trump’s unconstitutional Executive Order that attacks the Smithsonian museums.
