Montana students must predict future if they want to vote, lawsuit charges
- A new lawsuit ([link removed] ) is challenging a Montana law that forces college students to declare where they’ll live after graduation to register to vote. That means students can’t register using their campus address unless they say they’ll still live there after finishing school — even if they currently live, study and pay taxes in that county.
- Previously, Montana allowed anyone to register to vote in any county they called home, no matter how long they planned to stay — which is the norm for student voting. Plaintiffs are asking the court to block the law before it can be enforced.
