John,
Last Saturday, San Antonio held its first open mayoral election in 16 years with 27 candidates on the ballot.
The clear frontrunner? Gina Ortiz Jones. A veteran, a former Air Force intelligence officer, and the second-highest-ranking civilian in the U.S. Air Force under President Biden.
Gina led the field, but since no one crossed the 50% threshold, she now advances to a runoff on June 7 against Rolando Pablos, a Republican operative with deep ties to Governor Greg Abbott, who appointed him Secretary of State.
John, this race may be local, but the consequences aren’t.
San Antonio is the 7th most populous city in the country, with a population greater than that of 11 states. With the city council likely to become more conservative, this election is critical for Democrats to win.
With barely 10% of the electorate voting on Saturday, voter turnout becomes crucial. That is where Get Out the Vote PAC comes in. Gina’s race is ideal for GOTV’s voter turnout program, which we plan to launch later this week. Early voting starts on May 27 and is key to Gina’s victory.
John, can you contribute $25 or more to support GOTV’s independent voter turnout efforts in this little-publicized yet critical race? The size of GOTV’s program depends entirely on how much we can raise between now and June 7.
