NI retail open for business again

On Monday the First Minister Arlene Foster MLA was able to announce that retail outlets across Northern Ireland could open from this morning. Yesterday it was confirmed that this could also include indoor shopping centres, meaning that there is now no exclusion on any retail outlet operating in Northern Ireland.

It was also announced on Monday that a working group would be established to work towards the re-opening of churches and as the economy re-starts, the importance of childcare was also discussed this week.

During yesterday's media briefing, the First Minister also confirmed that the Executive would be meeting early next week to look at further possible relaxations:

🏨 - The Economy Minister will bring a paper on the potential for opening hotels and caravan parks more quickly than the original 20th July date.

✂️ - The re-opening of hairdressers will be discussed

Reminded eligible businesses to apply for the Microbusiness Hardship Fund before it closes today.
Held discussions with the retail sector in advance of business re-opening.
Outlined her vision for rebuilding the Northern Ireland economy.
Announced £1.7million to support online learning for people impacted by COVID-19.
Continued to lobby on behalf of the hospitality sector, including highlighting the impact a reduction to 1 metre social distancing would have.

Continued to discuss the re-opening of schools with teachers and schools across Northern Ireland.

Schools visited included the Boys Model in Belfast, Model Primary School Enniskillen, St Joseph's Crossmaglen and St Paul's Bessbrook.
Confirmed funding for the Bookstart programme which will help parents impacted by COVID-19.

DAERA Minister Edwin Poots

Responded to an Assembly debate on support for the beef & sheep sectors in Northern Ireland. .
Announced the re-opening of public conveniences at forest/country parks and allowing food vans to operate at these locations.
Took part in the first DUP online Rural Roadshow with Carla Lockhart MP, Economy Minister Diane Dodds and William Irwin MLA.
