John,
Too many voters will be forced to make the decision between exercising their right to vote and their health this fall. We do not know what the pandemic will look like this November -- but we shouldn’t wait to act on making voting safe and accessible for everyone.
Tom McClintock is feeding into the false narrative that voting by mail invites fraud into our elections (news flash -- it doesn’t).
No one should be denying the validity of vote-by-mail, especially Tom McClintock -- who represents a district where over 75% of voters, including more than 75% of Republicans, are registered to vote by mail. He even votes by mail -- in CA-07 (not CA-04)!
Our leaders must put partisan politics aside to uphold the Constitution and protect the franchise at the heart of our democracy. Congress should pass universal vote-by-mail.

The right to vote should not be a partisan issue or a controversial topic.
California gives every voter the opportunity to vote by mail. It’s a big reason why our community routinely has the highest voter turnout of any Congressional district in California.
In a recently televised forum, Tom McClintock said that “election security means voters looking each other in the eye at a polling place.” It was a curious -- if not galling -- comment from a representative who votes by mail and represents a district that votes by mail, yet refuses to live here and has refused to look his own constituents in the eye at a town hall meeting in almost 3 years.
Tom McClintock is once again showing how out of touch he is with our district. He’s parroting national talking points to disenfranchise voters instead of focusing on our local needs.
It’s simple: Our democracy can’t stop functioning, even in times of crisis. People should not be forced to decide between their health and their vote.
The time for Congress to act is now, so call on our leaders now to pass universal vote-by-mail. Sign the petition, and show your support.
