The dry
season arrived early in New Mexico, and that means forest fires could
start up at any time.

But instead of making sure the Forest Service is prepared to keep our
communities safe, Donald Trump is making cuts at the very same agency
that’s supposed to be managing the risks.

According to a Forest Service employee who was fired in February (and then
rehired after a court ruling), the cuts are damaging morale at the agency
and stopping important work like brush clearing from getting finished.

Trump and his billionaire friends talk a lot about “efficiency,” but these
cuts aren’t making the government more efficient.

They’re making New Mexicans — and everyone living in areas at risk of
wildfire — less safe. And in addition to the lives they’re putting at
risk, this could end up costing us more money when we have to clean up the
mess.

Governors are the first line of defense against the new Trump
administration, and New Mexicans deserve a leader who will fight to
protect our lands and keep our communities safe. I’ve never backed down
from a fight, and I won’t start now.

race. So if you can, please pitch in $5 or
any amount today to help me keep growing this grassroots movement and
fighting back against the Trump administration.
