But before I do, I want to explain why:

When I first decided to run for Congress, it wasn’t part of some long-term plan.

I was a practicing pediatrician, and I loved taking care of my patients and working alongside incredible nurses and healthcare workers in our community.

But then, my member of Congress at the time voted to dismantle the Affordable Care Act—a move that would have shuttered rural hospitals, left families unable to afford life-saving medications, and stripped health coverage from millions of Americans, including thousands right here in Washington’s 8th District.

I couldn’t sit by and watch that happen. I knew that somebody needed to act, and fast. So I ran for Congress. And since the moment I arrived in Washington, I’ve fought tooth and nail to protect and expand healthcare access for families like yours. I’ve worked to cap insulin costs at $35 a month for seniors, pushed for lower prescription drug prices for everyone, and co-sponsored legislation to expand mental health services and improve maternal healthcare, and keep kids safer online.

I’ve supported bills that strengthened protections for people with pre-existing conditions and fought efforts to weaken the Affordable Care Act. Because, as a doctor, I know what these policies mean in real life. For the new mom trying to afford critical medication, for the child struggling with asthma, for the senior who’s rationing prescriptions because they cost too much—these are real people, our friends, neighbors, family members, and even ourselves.

And now, Donald Trump and extreme Republicans are coming after our healthcare…again! They’ve made it clear they’ll never stop trying to gut critical programs like Medicaid and Medicare—programs that provide vital support for millions of Americans, from low-income families to seniors to people with disabilities. They've made it clear they don't care about the consequences on everyday Americans and have no interest in serving the people, only themselves. Simply put: I’m fighting with everything I’ve got to hold extremists accountable, protect essential health programs, and build a healthcare system that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected, but I can't do it alone. Will you chip in today to help me protect affordable, quality healthcare for every American? >> [link removed]

With gratitude,

Kim
