TOGETHER, WE DID
IT! Last week, the Ohio legislature passed the immediate repeal of the
controversial OVEC coal subsidies that were established
under House Bill 6. The repeal of these subsidies means
millions of dollars will remain in the pockets of hardworking
families instead of propping up obsolete and polluting coal
plants.
This triumph wasn't handed
to us—it was earned through relentless grassroots organizing. Each
number listed above represents a person—a neighbor, a parent, a
student, a retiree—who believed that their voice mattered. And
they were right.
For over six years, the repercussions of House Bill
6 have fallen on Ohioans' shoulders, and now, we've ended another
major component of that corruption scandal. Thanks to your advocacy,
Ohio is moving toward a more modern, transparent, and accountable
energy system.
This legislation
also delivers long overdue reforms to Ohio's energy policy:
- It improves transparency
and establishes stronger reliability standards requiring utilities to
track outages at the local level.
- offers low-interest loans
for solar energy and efficiency upgrades in schools.
- transitions Ohio away from
Electric Security Plans (ESPs), which utilities have used to charge
customers excessive riders and fees.
