It’s ridiculous, and it’s racist, and I shouldn’t even have to dignify it with a response. But this is also exactly why I got into politics. When I first ran for office in 2019, I ran to prove that Ghazala Hashmi is an American name. And you know what happened? Virginians had my back, and we did the impossible. We flipped a Republican seat in the heart of the former Confederacy, and we proved that Ghazala Hashmi is an American name. Now, as children and communities are targeted and attacked because of their religion, ethnicity, and the color of their skin, I know how important it is to stand up to bigotry and hate.
