This Birdathon Team lived up to their name! 'Flock Around And Find Out' birded for a staggering 13 hours (wow!), walking almost 12 miles at four locations to see 72 unique species.
Team Captain Arielle Smith saw 15 new life birds including a Baltimore Oriole and Orchard Oriole.
They shared,
One of the absolute highlights of our Birdathon was connecting with other birders along the way. Telling people we were doing a Big Day sparked so many fun and meaningful conversations. At Dyke Marsh, a kind couple enthusiastically pointed us toward a pair of Orioles—and at Huntley Meadows, another generous couple tipped us off about a Blue Grosbeak. These moments of shared discovery felt joyful and communal, and we were struck by how eager more experienced birders were to share their knowledge. Even people who weren’t birding were curious, asking what we were up to—which gave us the perfect opportunity to spread the word about NVBA and its mission!
