Reflections on Resilience

Hi John,

I won’t sugarcoat this.

These past few months have not been easy for non-profit organizations, particularly those working on U.S. foreign policy and human rights. Funding cuts from governments and institutional donors have resulted in stiff competition for the essential funds we need to do this work. Increasing authoritarianism throughout the hemisphere has brought about new demands for those that champion human rights. Many organizations have been forced to make difficult decisions with devastating consequences, including drastically reducing staff, cutting program areas, or even closing their doors.

While we are not immune to these challenges, WOLA is still here, still pushing for the changes we want to see both in the United States and in Latin America, just as we have done for five decades.

We know that WOLA was made for this moment. But in order to meet it, we need YOU.

Over the course of this month, we will be sharing a story series, Reflections on Resilience, from our staff about their experiences with recent events and what it’s meant for WOLA’s work.  We hope that these stories offer you insight into our perspective, as well as inspire you at this challenging time.

Our resilience depends on supporters like you. Please give to WOLA today.

With hope for the future,
