Representing you in Congress has been the honor of my lifetime. Throughout my career — from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to the U.S. House of Representatives — I’ve fought for our values with everything I have. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

Recently, I announced that I will not seek re-election so that I can focus on my health and on continuing to represent you in the current term. As we look to the future, I know how important it is to elect a strong, principled leader to continue to fight for Northern Virginia.

That’s why I’m proud to endorse current Fairfax County Supervisor and my former Chief of Staff, James Walkinshaw, to represent Virginia’s 11th District in Congress. [[link removed]]

James brings unmatched experience, a depth of knowledge about federal issues, and a steadfast commitment to progressive values. When I took office in 2009, appointing him Chief of Staff was one of the best decisions I made. For more than a decade, he led our office with skill and professionalism, and was by my side for the toughest fights — passing the Affordable Care Act, opposing extreme Republican policies, ending harmful government shutdowns, and standing firm against Trump’s first Administration.

Since flipping a Republican-held seat in 2019, James has been a bold and effective voice on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors — taking on the NRA to ban guns in our libraries and rec centers, investing more in our public schools, and chairing the Fairfax County Board’s Environmental Committee. When Trump’s henchman, Stephen Miller, threatened to put him in jail if he didn’t agree to Fairfax Police participating in Trump’s mass deportations, James didn’t flinch and stood firm with our community.

James has built a strong bond with the people he represents in Fairfax County because he shows up, listens, and solves problems. He is trusted by those who work with him and respected by those who know him. I know him as a dedicated friend to me, a devoted husband to his wife, Yvette, and a wonderful father to their son, Mateo.

This is not a moment for on-the-job training. We need a strong representative, experienced in addressing national issues that affect our community, who can stand up to Trump and lead from day one. I believe James Walkinshaw is that leader. I hope you’ll join me in supporting him.

Gerry and his wife Smitty have lived in Fairfax since 1979 and have one daughter, Caitlin. Gerry previously served as the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. In Congress, Gerry has worked continuously to grow Northern Virginia’s economy, to ensure a world-class education system, and to preserve Social Security and Medicare.
