2. CAROLINA JOURNAL: School reopening
plans raise questions of feasibility
"People are scratching their heads over the
state’s health guidance about how schools can safely
reopen.
The upcoming school year won’t be normal, and COVID-19 is to
blame, state officials have said. Schools will have to balance
teaching students with curbing the spread of the virus. To prepare for
the 2020-21 school year, state agencies have shared the safety
precautions school districts must take to protect students and
staff.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday,
June 8, published the StrongSchoolsNC
Public Health Toolkit (K-12). The Department for
Public Instruction on Thursday talked about how schools could operate
under the various health plans.
The bulky
plan consists of more than 120 pages of complex rules and
guidelines, all of which are probably impossible to enact. Terry
Stoops calls them comically impractical."
3. DAILY SIGNAL: The Trans Teen
Revolution
"Keira Bell can never get her childhood back. And her body, a
scarred and mangled reminder, tells her every day. 'I am living in a
world where I don’t fit in as male or as female. I am stuck between
two sexes.'
Now 23, she’s dedicated her life to stop teenagers from making the
same mistake. And suing the clinic responsible is step No. 1.
Bell was just a child when she walked into England’s Tavistock
clinic and declared she wanted to be a boy. The staff didn’t blink.
Despite just starting her periods and having no other real
psychological evaluation or therapy, Tavistock prescribed her
the puberty
blockers that ultimately ruined her life.
'I should have been challenged on the claims that I was making for
myself,' Bell
told the judges. 'And I think that would have made a big
difference as well. If I was just challenged on the things I was
saying.'”
4. ABC 11: President Trump to
deliver acceptance speech in Jacksonville Fla. as alternative to
Charlotte
" President Donald Trump will be delivering his GOP
acceptance speech in Jacksonville, Fla."We are
thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion in the great city of
Jacksonville," RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a news release.
"Not only does Florida hold a special place in President Trump's heart
as his home state, but it is crucial in the path to victory in 2020.
We look forward to bringing this great celebration and economic boon
to the Sunshine State in just a few short
months." Trump, who was born in New York, declared
Florida as his permanent
residence in 2019.The Republican
National Committee officials announced Thursday evening that
Jacksonville has been selected as the host city to celebrate the
re-nomination of Trump, while a scaled-down version of the rest of the
convention will still be held in Charlotte, N.C. The selection comes
after a dispute between North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Trump of
the handling of the RNC convention in
Charlotte during the coronavirus pandemic."
5. NORTH STATE JOURNAL: Bill easing N.C.
absentee ballot access goes to governor
"North Carolina lawmakers are sending Gov. Roy
Cooper a bill making it easier for voters to access absentee ballots
during the COVID-19 pandemic this fall while ensuring in-person voting
sites are clean and safe.
Despite complaints by a few Democrats about a photo voter
identification provision, the legislation received bipartisan support
on Thursday in final votes in the Senate and House.
The bill’s chief proponents said the rule changes for the mail-in
ballots, along with funding to pay poll workers and buy plenty of
personal protective equipment for them and voters, will go a long way
toward an orderly, accessible election in November.
The use of traditional absentee by-mail ballots, usually fewer than
5% of all votes cast in a North Carolina election, is expected to
spike because people at higher risk for complications from the
coronavirus won’t venture out to voting centers and precincts. State
law already allows any registered voter to cast an absentee by-mail
ballot."
WEEKLY PRAYER: FAMILY
LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love,
mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling
for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this
wonderful institution called family.
LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed
to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships,
and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of
marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children
have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In
it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first
authorities.
LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how
deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and
thanksgiving, we pray in confession--as individuals and as members of
larger communities--over any sins we may have committed that undermine
your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution
through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation
for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of
being human--being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows
and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one's
children.
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,
compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13
bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another,
forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must
forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your
hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing
one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do,
in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:12-17)
Amen
