Time is running out, Jack.
Every year, the federal government spends over $100 million to round up and remove wild horses and burros from public lands — only to stockpile them in holding facilities that are overburdened, fiscally irresponsible and inhumane. Meanwhile, less than 4% of the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) wild horse budget goes to fertility control, despite years of scientific evidence that it's safer, cheaper, and more effective.
We have an important opportunity to change that, but we need your help.
A letter is circulating in the House of Representatives urging Congress to include critical protections for wild horses and burros in the Fiscal Year 2026 Department of Interior Appropriations bill.
You are in the district of a key representative who has not yet signed on to this critical letter. We need your help to get them to sign on, but they need to hear directly from you by May 9.
By Sunday, May 9, please join us in using your voice to demand that Congress: [[link removed]]
✅ Prohibit funds being used for inhumane sterilization surgeries, including ovariectomies.
✅ Require the BLM to dedicate at least 10% of its budget to humane, reversible fertility control implementation.
✅ Ban cash incentives under the Adoption Incentive Program, which has contributed to wild horses and burros ending up in the slaughter pipeline.
✅ Require the BLM to relocate wild horses to suitable HMAs and Herd Areas instead of placing them in off-range holding.
✅ Mandate that helicopters, traps, and holding facilities used in roundups be equipped with cameras, and that footage be made publicly available.
This is a critical moment. If enough people speak up, we can shift federal policy toward compassion and common sense.
