Wondering Why Crime’s Out of Control? Washington’s AG Is Too Busy Suing Trump

If you were hoping Washington Attorney General Nick Brown might spend 2025 focusing on crime, fentanyl, or the retail theft crisis—think again. He’s far too busy racking up headlines by filing lawsuit after lawsuit against Donald Trump.

Since Trump’s inauguration (to be clear, his second term just started 100 days ago), Brown has already either led or jumped aboard 15 different lawsuits—everything from defending medically-supervised child abuse to protecting failing sources of “clean energy” – and then there’s his apparent borderline disturbing obsession with Elon Musk.

Among the priorities:

  • Blocking Trump’s attempts to cut funding to DEI programs.
  • Suing over delays in NIH grants.
  • Challenging public health funding changes.
  • Suing over the reinstatement of federal employees.
  • And of course, defending “gender-affirming care for youth.”

Meanwhile, Washington residents are still waiting for someone to show even a passing interest in prosecuting car theft, retail looting, and organized drug crime. Brown’s message is clear: if it doesn’t involve suing Trump or virtue-signaling to the activist base, it’s not on the priority list. Read more at Axios.

Media Swoons Over Twice-Convicted Felon, Hopes You Won’t Read to Paragraph 43

If you’re wondering why trust in the media is circling the drain, look no further than The Spokesman-Review’s puff piece on Martin R. Diaz—a twice-convicted felon and illegal immigrant arrested by ICE in Spokane. The headline? “Man without a country.” The lead? A heart-tugging tale about a poor toddler brought to America, caught up in the mean Trump-era deportation machine.

As KTTH’s Jason Rantz points out, what they forgot to mention—until paragraph forty-two—is that Diaz pleaded guilty to third-degree assault after being charged with rape, and picked up another felony conviction ten years later for domestic violence. That tiny detail apparently wasn’t important until you were a full essay deep into the piece.

Instead of leading with facts, reporters opted for emotional manipulation—tossing around Trump quotes, referencing other deportation controversies, and barely glossing over Diaz’s criminal record. One defense attorney even hand-waved the convictions as “common” and “street-level minor.” Good luck using that line in court.

Local outlets like KUOW, KXLY, and KGW followed suit, treating Diaz like a victim of cruel bureaucracy instead of someone who broke the law—twice. The media and activist left seem determined to make him a poster child for compassion. Instead, they’re accidentally reminding the public exactly why deportation laws exist. Read more at KTTH.

UW’s Dumpster Fire: Literal and Moral

Another week, another disgraceful episode at the University of Washington, where administrators continue to fumble their responsibility to protect Jewish students from so-called “protestors.”

On Monday night, about 30 radical pro-Palestinian activists—masquerading as students—occupied the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building, blocked streets, and lit Dumpster fires, all because Boeing dared to donate $10 million to a $90 million educational facility. The agitators, part of the group “Super UW” (a suspended group, by the way), claimed the donation was tantamount to “genocide” due to Boeing’s defense contracts. Never mind that Boeing employs countless UW grads or that the protesters’ antisemitic rants went far beyond mere criticism of corporate partnerships.

UW officials—once again playing catch-up—only acted after the situation escalated into a safety hazard, arresting the occupiers and charging them with trespassing and disorderly conduct. In a rare moment of clarity, the university did at least acknowledge the antisemitism spewed by the group, but as usual, the condemnation came only after the damage was done—physically, socially, and academically.

And the chaos might not be over. On Tuesday night, Turning Point USA is hosting Riley Gaines on campus—a speaker whose stance on protecting women’s sports has triggered previous student meltdowns. The last event she was scheduled to attend was shut down by protesters. Apparently, silencing dissent and torching property is what “activism” looks like now at UW.

If only the administration showed half as much resolve in standing up for Jewish students as they do issuing milquetoast press releases after the fact. Read more at Center Square.

Supreme Court Smacks Down Woke Tacoma Judge

The Supreme Court just did what lower courts couldn’t: restore a shred of sanity to military policy by allowing President Trump’s transgender service ban to take effect while legal challenges play out. Finally, a win for military readiness over social experiments.

This comes after a particularly absurd ruling from U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle in Tacoma, who decided his personal feelings were more important than national defense. Settle claimed that kicking out openly transgender service members would cause them emotional distress and said the government didn’t prove trans service harms the military. That’s cute, but the military doesn’t need to justify personnel decisions to judges obsessed with identity politics.

Thankfully, the Supreme Court wasn’t having it. They overturned Settle’s nationwide injunction, recognizing that preserving unit cohesion, discipline, and readiness matters more than someone’s preferred pronouns.

The ruling isn’t final, but it’s a huge step in restoring the military’s ability to set its own standards—not have them dictated by activist judges or grandstanding politicians like Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who shrieked that Trump’s actions were based in “hate and cruelty.” No, they’re based in reality. And they’re long overdue. Read more at MyNorthwest.com.

Democrats Ignored Forest Management for Decades—Now They’re Shocked Things Are on Fire

Washington’s wildfire crisis is heating up—literally—and once again, Democrats are scrambling to blame everyone but themselves. State officials are warning of an “above-average” fire season, pointing fingers at federal hiring delays, Trump-era decisions, and even asking residents to “recreate responsibly,” as if a family camping trip is the real threat.

Here’s the truth they won’t admit: these fires aren’t just the result of bad luck or dry summers. They’re the direct consequence of years—decades—of Democrat-led failure to implement basic forest management. Controlled burns? Thinning out dangerous undergrowth? Actually maintaining public lands? Nah. That might offend the environmental lobby or require hard decisions. So instead, they let our forests rot into kindling and act surprised when they go up in flames.

And now that they’ve neglected the problem to the point of catastrophe, they have the audacity to already start pointing fingers at federal “lack of preparedness” while conveniently ignoring their own role in letting the fire risk build year after year. DNR is already prepping the excuses for why this summer’s inevitable infernos won’t be their fault. But Washingtonians aren’t buying it anymore.

If Democrats spent half as much time managing forests as they do pushing climate talking points, maybe the state wouldn’t burn down every summer. Read more at MyNorthwest.com.
